Re: Poem

My verse today is Matthew 24: 35

Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will by no means pass away. NIV

Do you think God is trying to tell us something here @REDLINEZ750 ? I think He'd be pleased that we're getting into his word, even if it's only one verse! I have a Bible app, but I don't think I'm allowed to say the name on here. Thanks for encouraging me to get into the Word. 💜

Re: Poem

hey @heartathome they are the greatest tool and reminder to praise each day in this day and age.

i reckon he be pleased especially being as when two or more use his name he is amongst them we are giving him all the distance of Blue mountains to north coast  maybe that does good we will never know of that would not of been without us doing 1 verse a time aye 😁

Re: Poem

Good morning @REDLINEZ750 You're on early!! How are you today?  I usually read the International Children's Bible. I find it easy to understand. Thanks for your daily devotion. Is it normally one verse? For some reason I struggle to read the Bible. Probably from my time in an abusive church. I'm not sure if it's a cult but when someone says you need to speak in tongues, I'm off! They go on the street and preach, which isn't necessarily a bad thing but when they killed Santa on the street, they upset a heap of kids! It wasn't my style. They used to preach a lot about hell. I was there for nearly two years. Thankfully I've found a church that I feel comfortable in now! Have you got any plans for the day? How's Pooky?

Re: Poem

yeah when i  got steered toward Christ  i was lucky to have landed with the right chaplain whom was hard core scripture and he taught me well, hardline do not listen to amyone until you know they speak the gospel  and seriously its quite frightning how many churches arent.

i was watching a jimmy swaggart for a while and thought he was ok , loved the tithe yeah but ok until he and his son went real hard on water baptism and tongues and other things being necessasry for salvation i remember thinking been water baptised more than twice and tongues thing when i had not been born again long nearly got me thinking i wasnt called and the chain of events that made it happen right down to how briefly that bible could of carried on past me was all made up.

but no its written in the scripture its a personal dialogue that God understands and but it has nothing to do with salvation and that guy preached to millions around the world for many years till he fell on his sword.

ol mate was turned on by the church body and had his position denounced as he was accused of being a sexist for saying females should not be preaching in churches, he had some church board or something telling him to stop spreading hate and be more christian and told him hes got to stay with the times he never argued he stood by hes not sexist its written in scripture and nothing is new in this world under the sun, i dont think i worded the new under the sun correctly but its also scripture pointing out the importance of scripture and they stripped his title father whatever he was used to have congregation and hes now a chaplain @heartathome

he wasnt wrong about it being contriversal im probably going upset people writing this here and hes quite thorough the old fella he pointed out where a passage talks about now im way off the wording on this one but its along the line of spread the gospel  so more may be saved but once shown  do not quarell with those that reject the blood of Christ  for not all are children of god and the only way to the father is through the son.

its why i find it hard to find a consistant  following so many dont go near certain passages that still contradict catholic teachings even that link i shared yesterday i listened to whole thing before posting it if i listened for 58minutes and something was not biblical i wouldnt of done it.

the irony is im uneducated i do not know passages off my head i did know how to open my bible to chapter pretty accurate once though.

scholars/theologians  try bury me in old testament  mosaic laws if i ask a question after a service  i always wonder why they get so flustered sometimes if im just being a shit i say something like oh now i see whats wrong you studied old testament how could you know whats in  the new testament or the last covenant of God through the crucification of his only son.

Re: Poem

I asked ChatGPT about Jimmy Swaggart and got a run down. I knew he had a Pentecostal TV show and lost his credibility but not much else. I didn't know he was a musician or that he's still preaching! AI said he continues broadcasting and has a faithful following. I wonder if he's still preaching that one needs to be water baptised and speak in tongues to be saved. I never watched any of them TV preachers more than a couple of times because I couldn't stand the tithing thing!

I can honestly say that I don't know what the scripture says about women preaching. It certainly is controversial! I'd have to see where it's written.

I did a study on tongues, and I disagreed with the church that everyone should have this gift and it's a part of being filled with the Holy Spirit, insinuating that I wasn't. I used to study the Bible a lot back then and I took it personally. That's when the falling out happened. I was told that I was 'backsliding' because I left the church. I was denounced as a Christian. It was an extremely lonely part of my life, and I nearly lost my faith because of it.

We're all fallible but it's so much easier to see other people's sins rather than our own. If I point my finger at someone (including the church), I have three pointing back at myself! That feels close to me! Maybe because I've been unfairly judged most of my life. I leave the church in God's hands! I feel my purpose on this world is not to judge but to love! Maybe that's just the easy way out of any confrontations! I used to love confrontations when I was younger but now, I avoid them.

My non-Christian friends (mostly brought up under strict Catholic schools and hating God) know I'm a Christian and go to church. I don't push my beliefs on them, and I don't leave them. I stay with my friends, hoping I can drop a gem in there somewhere. They're people who have been hurt by the church! I understand that. I go to bible study every Tuesday for a couple of hours. I like going with all my questions.  😆 I feel like I've just written a bloody essay! I better get back to some others. 💛

Re: Poem

Thank you for trusting and sharing the poem with me @REDLINEZ750 I love Pooky down the bottom! It gave me a laugh! And the dove across the mountains... I have forever to meet the boy and man and I'm sure one day I will. Can you imagine knowing each other in Heaven without ever meeting?

I asked ChatGPT about women preaching and it gave me a heap of verses for both ways of thinking.

Passages often cited as restricting women preaching

1 Cor 14: 34 - 35

1 Timothy 2: 11 - 12

Passages that support women's ministry

Acts 2: 17 - 18

Romans 16: 1 - 7

Acts 18: 26

John 20: 17 - 18

Complementarian view

Woman and men are equal in worth but have different roles; men are called to preach or hold pastoral authority, while women serve in other ministries.

Egalitarian view

The restrictions were cultural, not eternal; women can preach, pastor, and teach as the Spirit leads, just as the early church women did.

I'll talk to my bible study teacher and ask what he thinks. He's an ex-Baptist minister and a psychologist. I trust what he says because he always backs it up with scripture. I guess it all comes down to how the Word is interpretated by each person.
