A cirrhosis diet focuses on managing symptoms, preventing further liver damage, and ensuring adequate nutrition, often involving a low-sodium, high-protein, and moderate-fat approach. It's crucial to work with a healthcare professional or registered dietitian to create a personalized plan.
Key Dietary Recommendations:
Low Sodium: Limit sodium intake to help manage fluid retention (ascites) and swelling. Aim for less than 2000mg per day, and avoid using the salt shaker.
High Protein: Protein is essential for liver repair and regeneration, but it's important to choose lean protein sources and spread protein intake throughout the day. Good options include:
Lean meats: Chicken, turkey, and lean cuts of beef or pork.
Fish: Cod, salmon, tuna, sardines, or mackerel.
Eggs: Choose egg whites for a low-calorie, high-protein option.
Legumes: Beans, lentils, and chickpeas.
Dairy: Low-fat milk, yogurt, and cheese.
Moderate Fat: Focus on healthy fats from sources like olive oil, avocados, and fatty fish, while limiting saturated and trans fats.
Small, Frequent Meals: Eating smaller meals throughout the day can help prevent feeling overly full or experiencing indigestion.
Plenty of Fluids: Drink 6-8 glasses of fluids daily, primarily water.
Prioritize Fruits and Vegetables: Include a variety of fruits and vegetables, especially those with bright colors, like oranges, yellows, reds, and greens.
Choose Whole Grains: Opt for whole grains like quinoa, oats, and brown rice over refined grains.
Avoid Alcohol: Alcohol is toxic to the liver and should be avoided completely.
Limit Sugary Drinks and Processed Foods: These can put extra strain on the liver.
Consider Supplements: People with cirrhosis may be deficient in certain vitamins and minerals, so your doctor or dietitian may recommend supplements.
Foods to Limit or Avoid:
Alcohol: All types of alcohol should be avoided.
High-Sodium Foods: Processed foods, salty snacks, and foods high in sodium.
Fried Foods: Fried foods are high in fat and can worsen liver damage.
Raw or Undercooked Shellfish, Fish, and Meat: These may contain bacteria or viruses that can be dangerous for people with cirrhosis.
Unpasteurized Milk and Milk Products: These can also carry harmful bacteria.
Excess Sugar: Sugary drinks, desserts, and other high-sugar foods can contribute to liver damage.
Important Considerations:
Individualized Plans:
Dietary needs vary, so work with a healthcare professional to create a plan that's right for you.
Listen to Your Body:
Pay attention to how your body responds to different foods and adjust your diet accordingly.
Stay Hydrated:
Drink plenty of fluids, especially water.
Regular Check-ups:
Regular check-ups with your doctor are essential to monitor your liver health and adjust your diet as needed.

Yeah @Bill16
I think that's the problem with 'modern' weed...so much of it is toxically strong, grown specifically that way
Couple that with a more 'fragile' (for want of a better word) mind/psyche...just dangerous
