Re: Christian Chat

“This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him.” — 1 John 4:9 (NIV)

ἐφανερώθη (ephanerōthē)

→ was revealed, made visible, brought into the light

→ carries the sense of something previously unseen now clearly displayed and undeniable

ἀγάπη (agapē)

→ self-giving, sacrificial, unconditional love

→ not based on feeling alone, but a deliberate, choosing love that acts for another’s good

τοῦ Θεοῦ (tou Theou)

→ of God

→ emphasises that this love originates in God, not in us

ἐν ἡμῖν (en hēmin)

→ among us / in us

→ can mean within human experience or in our midst, not distant or abstract

ἀπέσταλκεν (apestalken)

→ has sent, has commissioned, sent with purpose

→ a completed action with ongoing effect—God sent, and that sending still matters now

τὸν Υἱὸν αὐτοῦ (ton Huion autou)

→ His Son

→ relational and personal—not just a messenger, but His own Son

τὸν μονογενῆ (ton monogenē)

→ the one and only, uniquely beloved, one of a kind

→ emphasises uniqueness and preciousness, not replaceable

εἰς τὸν κόσμον (eis ton kosmon)

→ into the world

→ into the human, broken, ordinary world—not kept separate from it

ἵνα (hina)

→ so that / for this purpose

→ introduces God’s intention, not accidental but purposeful

ζήσωμεν (zēsōmen)

→ we might live, truly live, have real life

→ speaks of spiritual, full, restored life, not just existence

δι’ αὐτοῦ (di’ autou)

→ through Him

→ life comes by means of Him, not independently

God’s love is not abstract but revealed through action: He sent His perfect Son into the world so that humanity might receive true life through Him. This verse shows that love originates with God, is demonstrated through sacrifice, and results in life for those who receive it. 🙏

Re: Christian Chat

@heartathome "God’s love is not abstract..."

So true. His love must be lived to be real. Not just action in how our guilty conscience might accuses us we should, but rather obeying the love of God living in our hearts about all that.

For myself i have learned to understand that many people TRY and love those that are hard to love, but so often fail losing love rather than gaining it. i know i have. Yet when we heed love in our hearts, not duty, must, should, do and rule, but obey what our hearts LOVE to do in His love then there is never a problem, for applying God's love to self like that fixes it our 'good works' issue instantly

Like Jesus warns, without Me you can do nothing. It is not about earning our salvation being loving to others because we think we should be doing that, but about loving God, ourself and our neighbour God's love. For then we always have enough love to share and love to do so. This works so very much better than heeding a guilty conscience demanding we break our eternal Sabbath. (Col 2:16-23)

Re: Christian Chat

John 1:12

Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.

Who was speaking?

John is reflecting on the message and identity of Jesus Christ as the “Word” (Logos).

What was happening at the time?

John is explaining who Jesus is and how people responded to Him when He came into the world.

There is a contrast being made between:

those who rejected Jesus

and those who received Him and believed

Key Greek words (meaning)

“Received” (Greek: λαμβάνω – lambanō)

Meaning: to take hold of, accept, welcome fully, embrace

“Believed” (Greek: πιστεύω – pisteuō)

Meaning: to trust in, rely on, place confidence in, commit oneself to

“Name” (Greek: ὄνομα – onoma)

Meaning: more than a label — represents character, authority, identity

“Right / Authority” (Greek: ἐξουσία – exousia)

Meaning: legal authority, privilege, permission, granted status

“Children of God” (Greek: τέκνα θεοῦ – tekna Theou)

Meaning: those born into God’s family — belonging, not just followers

Short summary

This verse teaches that anyone who truly receives Jesus and trusts in Him is given the authority and privilege to become part of God’s family—not by human effort, but by faith and acceptance of Christ. 💚

Re: Christian Chat

Hi @heartathome , @DownMoreThanUp , @Appleblossom , @ENKELI , @tyme , @MissGremlin , @Shaz51 ,

I Timothy

I Timothy 1

- From Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ.

- To Timothy, Paul's true son in the faith.

- Grace, mercy and peace.

- Remain in Ephesus - instruct people not to teach false doctrine, or pay attention to myths and genealogies.

- The goal of our instruction is love that comes from a pure heart, a good conscience, and a sincere faith.

- The Law is good if used in the right way - it is for the lawless and rebellious.

- Paul thankful to God for his ministry - given to him despite previously persecuting the church - received mercy because I acted out of ignorance in unbelief.

- The grace of our Lord overflowed, along with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus.

- Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners.

- Paul, an example of what can be forgiven.

- Glory to the King that rules forever and ever.

- Timothy, fight the good fight having faith and a good conscience.

I Timothy 2

- Pray for world leaders - that we may live a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity.

- This pleases God our Saviour who wants everyone to be saved.

- One God and one Mediator between God and humanity - the man Christ Jesus.

- For this Paul is an apostle of the Gentiles in faith and truth.

- Paul wanted men in every place to pray.

- Paul wanted women to dress modestly, with good works.

- Paul's teaching on women.

I Timothy 3

- Paul's teaching on the qualifications for elders/bishops.

- If he doesn't know how to manage his own household, how will he take care of God's church.

- Deacons, likewise should be worthy of respect.

- Their wives must also be worthy of respect.

- Paul writes to Timothy so he will know how people ought to conduct themselves in God's household, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of the truth.

- The mystery of godliness is great: came as a human, vindicated in the Spirit, seen by angels, preached among the nations, believed on in the world, received up in glory.

I Timothy 4

- In the latter times some will depart from the faith - forbidding marriage or to eat certain foods.

- For everything created by God is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving.

- Have nothing to do with pointless and silly myths.

- Rather train yourself in godliness.

- Bodily exercise has limited benefit; godliness beneficial for present life and life to come.

- Paul writes to Timothy to not let anyone despise his youth - set an example in speech, conduct, love, faith and purity.

- Give your attention to public reading, exhortation and teaching.

- Pay close attention to your life and your teaching and you will save both yourself and your hearers.

I Timothy 5

- Be courteous to people.

- Support widows genuinely in need - at least sixty years of age, faithful life full of good works.

- Younger widows are encouraged to remarry.

- Anyone who does not provide for their own family, has denied the faith, worse than an unbeliever.

- Double honour to worthy elders - the worker is worthy of his wages.

- Don't accept an accusation against an elder unless supported by two or three witnesses.

I Timothy 6

- Slaves reverently serve your masters, especially if your master is a fellow believer.

- False doctrine leads to all sorts of strife.

- Godliness with contentment is great gain.

- We brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it.

- Those who want to be rich fall into temptation.

- Pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance, gentleness.

- Fight the good fight of the faith.

- Take hold of eternal life.

- Timothy, guard what has been entrusted to you . . . Grace.

Godliness with contentment is great gain. We brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. I always like this humbling reminder.

Re: Christian Chat

@DownMoreThanUp thank you so much for your post on 25th April - " i’ve been thinking about you since you shared how hard things have become" is the one I am referring to.

You too have been in my prayers as I know it's been a hard road for you to walk at the moment as well. Logically I know Jesus is with me but it's so nice to read a reminder of that.

I also know that sometimes we sort of clash in that I read your posts the wrong way and I am learning to understand more than just the words, and the intent behind them.

You are not my ex friend who used to Bible bash me when she felt the need to make me feel small. It's amazing how much you take when you believe you are in a relationship/friendship. Even in the beginning when her ex husband was telling child support and Centrelink that she and I were a couple she didn't stick up for me and tell him that he needed to stop lying. Every time her ex and his girlfriend abused me verbally she just stood by. When her daughter - my Goddaughter who I baptised and supported financially and emotionally - started abusing me verbally at the age of 15 she let it happen.

She would then throw verses that she cherry picked and would throw them at me, trying to make me think I was not the strong follower of Jesus that I was.

If I do react to your posts in a negative way I apologise in advance and hope that you will pick me up on it. Fortunately you do so that helps!

Let me know if there are any specific things you need prayer for my brother. You are always in my prayers so let me know any particulars xoxo

God bless, may your days improve

Re: Christian Chat

@heartathome still enjoying each of your posts my dear friend. God bless xoxo

Re: Christian Chat

@DownMoreThanUp I copied and pasted your Revelation passages so that I can refer to them regularly.

Between you and @heartathome I feel like I am being doubly blessed with the nourishment of the Word.

God bless xo

Re: Christian Chat

Acts 10:43: (NIV)

“All the prophets testify about him that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name.”

It’s a really powerful verse—simple, but full of hope. The message is that forgiveness isn’t earned or reserved for a few; it’s open to everyone who believes in Jesus. It ties together everything the prophets pointed toward and brings it into one clear promise: His grace is  available for those believe (cling to, rely on and trust in) 💚

Re: Christian Chat

@ENKELI Than you for the feedback. Good to hear your faith in Jesus is keeping you going, it is very much he same fro me. Although this morning i wonder why i keep going, each morning seem to say that more desperately.

Let me assure you i ;love people like you. At least you say it when you are upset then i know what i have on a person. For me it was amazing to hear how The Word could trigger you, but hearing how you have been bible based it makes perfect sense. So cruel when they use the word against you, to belittle you, and deny you. My mum and dad used to do that through the family bible. They underlined passages they want to show the other their wrongs with. Surely breeds ugly thoughts and feelings reading God's Word that way. Very sad to see people use The Word of God which  brings New Life to sow more death instead. Like Paul says The Spirit brings life but the letter kills, how true i that?

@heartathome @Realness @tyme @AuntGlow

Emotionally i'm at my end. Completely deprived of love and care. My wife is deeply in battle with herself and her own issues, Many issues badly amplified by looking after me for years so ill. She has no time of day for me right now, nor has anyone else in my family supporting her blaming me. i spend  basically 100 percent time on my own.

My wife was badly triggered on Monday her own issues, and left me upset, leaving me a complete mess. For it were her hidden issues she had been coming out with. Some of them stunning me in their intensity and animosity towards me, for things that happened years ago, having upset her big time.

Like blaming me full on for the kids never helping with the housework. For apparently i told the kids mum would do everything from now on while i was psychotic. The total opposite of how things used to be when i was not sick. For before my breakdown we had a complete family chore roster set up where all of us did the house work, me included.

i had no idea i done that, or why she would have let the kids get away with being like that all these years growing up teenagers, but she did, and now she was full on blaming me for being the cause of all her lonely hard unsupported labours.

So Monday was a real trigger day for me with her opening up her end,  blaming me for all the pains and sorrows she suffered me so unwell. All of her issues on Monday were about stuff that happened more than 20 years ago, but she had still kept against me. Unspoken frustrations and pains she never shared with me, for she tried to protect me her angers, but had always been upset with me about anyhow.

Although for all the hurt seeing her so vulnerable and upset, it was also really good seeing her open up her Pandora box. For for years i have pleaded with her to share her hurts with me, for i knew we had broken issues between us, but she never wanted to. Now i begin to understand why, because i was so sick all the time, she kept all her hurts from me, but sadly never had help dealing with some of the really painful stuff that happened between us. In particular raising the family without my (previous) support but instead full on needing it. On top of my psychotic outbursts, hospitalisations and depressed withdrawals for years on end.

It was in the end when i  asked her deeply hurt her upsetness, if i was also allowed to be a victim of my illness, that things blew up worst. Although in ever meant to hide behind my illness,  but i was a victim too of my own condition i never purposefully set out to do any of the things that happened.

i should have never said that for i copped a lot of her triggered anger after that - after which she ran off - leaving me once more a total mess. i had not even once raised my voice, i had acknowledge her all pains  and taken full responsibility when i had wronged her. Yet she was so badly overcome asking for a different place than scapegoat for me about all this, that me saying that stuffed up everything.

For in her own words all the bad stuff that has come our way over the years has always been my fault, even if i cannot even remember i done it. Even if i a long time ago i already stopped being like that. Even though i had struggled to get myself back together all these years. Such became my biggest negatives instead of a positive. i came very close to giving up after she left, it was hellish processing all her hurts.

She has been very withdrawn ever since struggling her issues. However she did apologise her outburst through whatsapp chats, but it still has been really hard seeing her withdraw her love and care for me more and more over the last weeks.

i told her best we best do this at couple counselling. i had tried to stop our interactions on Monday as well, but she really wanted to discuss it together with me at the time, and kept on dumping her hurts, kept hidden for years, on me instead.

We are having couple counselling later on today. It is our usual day together, but she does not want to see me after counselling. So i assume more is in store today, and she really does not want to be with me right now, and i have to digest all this on my own. It has truly been heart breaking days to be honest. i hope i survive the onslaught today it has been really full on.

Please do keep praying for us, we do truly need all the support from Above we can get.

Hi @heartathome , @DownMoreThanUp , @Appleblossom , @ENKELI , @tyme , @MissGremlin , @REDLINEZ750 , @Shaz51 ,

II Timothy

II Timothy 1

- From Paul an apostle of Jesus Christ.

- To Timothy, Paul's beloved child.

- Grace, mercy and peace.

- Paul constantly remembers Timothy in his prayers.

- Tells Timothy to make full use of the gift he received when Paul laid hands on him.

- For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but one of power, love, and sound judgement.

- Don't be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord, or of Paul His prisoner, but share in the suffering for the gospel, relying on the power of God.

- God has saved us and called us with a holy calling according to His own purpose and grace.

- Our Saviour Christ Jesus has abolished death and has brought life and immortality to light through the gospel.

- For this, Paul was appointed an apostle and it's why he suffers.

- But I am not ashamed, because I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to guard what has been entrusted to me until that Day.

- Hold on to the sound pattern of teaching you have heard from Paul, in the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus.

- Guard the good deposit through the Holy Spirit who live in us.

- Paul talks about people deserting him and is thankful for Onesiphorus who searched for Paul.

II Timothy 2

- Be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.

- Commit my teaching to faithful men who can teach also.

- Share in suffering as a good soldier of Christ Jesus.

- Remember Jesus - for which Paul is bound - but the word of God is not bound.

- I endure all things for the sake of the elect: so that they also may, obtain salvation, which is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory.

- If we died with Christ, we will live with Him. If we endure, we will also reign with Him. If we deny Him, He will also deny us. If we are faithless, He remains faithful.

- Don't fight about words - useless and leads to the ruin of those who listen.

- Be diligent to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who doesn't need to be ashamed, correctly teaching the word of truth.

- Avoid irreverent and empty speech.

- Let everyone who calls on the name of the Lord turn away from wickedness.

- If anyone purifies themself from anything dishonourable, they will be a special instrument, set apart, useful to the Master, prepared for every good work.

- The Lord's servant must not quarrel, but must be gentle to everyone, able to teach, and patient.

II Timothy 3

- Hard times will come in the last days - people will be lovers of self, lovers of money . . .

- But you have followed my teaching, conduct, purpose, faith, patience, love and endurance.

- All who want to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.

- But continue in what you have learned and firmly believed.

- All Scripture is inspired by God and is profitable for teaching, rebuking, correcting, training in righteousness so that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.

II Timothy 4

- Preach the word.

- A time will come when people will not tolerate sound doctrine.

- Exercise self-control in everything, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, fulfil your ministry.

- Paul nearing the end of his life - about to go to heaven.

- Fought the good fight, finished the race, has been faithful.

- There is reserved for me the crown of righteousness.

- Paul tells Timothy to come see him soon.

- Paul tells Timothy where everyone is.

- At Paul's first defence no one stood with him - may it not be charged against them - the Lord stood by me.

- The Lord will deliver me from every evil work, and will keep me for His heavenly kingdom - to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

- The Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Grace be with you. Amen.

This is Paul's last letter. The writing is dense and there are many references to Jesus Christ. Paul talks about enduring suffering and "being equipped for every good work". Paul's final words are: "The Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Grace be with you. Amen." I'm glad that Paul ended on grace!
